Dualfix i-Size remains the most expensive Dualfix at RRP £375.00. It retains all the key features associated with this popular model including SICT. It also has top safety, comfort and convenience to use from birth to 4 years.
Dualfix M i-Size is an ideal follow on car seat that can be used from 3 months old or between 51 and 105 cms tall. It includes SICT for extra protection from collisions at the side of the car. RRP £325.00.
The Dualfix 2 R Car Seat is the least expensive Dualfix at RRP £275.00. It can be used from birth to 4 years and like the other two in this range, it lets you turn the seat through 360 degrees. Do you want to buy a Britax Dualfix car seat but can’t make your mind up? Britax car seats are renowned for their safety and comfort features and the Dualfix i-Size, M i-Size and 2R often come up for comparison. Read on to find out what’s common to each and what sets them apart.
Dualfix broadens the stable of car seats with the extended rearward facing position. It first came on to the market around 5 years ago.
Dualfix models also let you have the car seat forward facing as well, simply by rotating the seat. You don’t need to take the seat out and then re install it in order to achieve this.
The Dualfix family has since grown to meet parents’ and children’s needs when travelling together. However, to find out which one is best for you, read on to see what we’ve found…
What Do All Dualfix Car Seats Offer?
All Dualfix Car Seats offer the following:
Extended rearward facing travel for your child until they’re 4 years old. They all offer forward facing positioning too.
You will find an additional, adjustable support leg with each Dualfix model. It goes from the base of the seat to the floor of the car in all these models to adds stability.
All three of these Car Seats have to be installed using ISOfix anchorage points in the car. They all have Britax’ patented system called Pivot Link that protects your child’s head and neck should there be a collision. This patented design directs the force from any collision down into the vehicle seat first of all. It is then directed forwards rather than being absorbed by your nipper’s head or neck.
Each Dualfix car seat rotates through 360 degrees. This means getting your child in and out of the car is much easier. You simply rotate the seat towards the door rather than having to stretch across and put strain on your back.
There is a wide range of recline positions with each Dualfix car seat. Plus, each one has an adjustable head rest as you would expect. It also goes without saying that each Dualfix car seat has a top quality, 5 point safety harness too.
Your child’s feet rest on an adjustable rebound bar on each Dualfix car seat. This foot rest area helps keep the car seat nice and sturdy in the event of a collision.
New, extra cosy soft neoprene chest pads are included with each model.
These chest pads reduce the amount of movement your child makes during a collision too. Plus, for added convenience, you can take them off without interfering with the harness straps when you need to freshen them up.
Differences Between Dualfix i-Size, M i-Size, 2R
Now we’ve been through the common features of this impressive Dualfix range of car seats, lets look at what sets them apart.
Difference #1 – Age Suitability
Britax Dualfix i-Size and Dualfix 2 R are both suitable from birth until 4 years old. (40 – 105cm or 0 – 18kg). Therefore you don’t need to change car seat until your child goes to school.
However the Dualfix M i-Size is known as a follow on car seat. This means Dualfix M i-Size Car Seat is suitable for babies from 3 months up to 4 years old. (61 – 105 cm or up to 18kg).
Therefore, with the Britax Dualfix M i-Size Car Seat, you would need to use another car seat such as the Britax Baby Safe i-Size from birth to 3 months.
Britax Baby Safe i-Size Car Seat (below) can be used from birth to 15 months old. (Up to 83cm).
So, if you wanted to stay with the same trusted brand, this car seat would fit the bill from birth. Make the most of its lie-flat position for your newborn and its padded insert to keep baby snug from day one.
Then you could swap from the BabySafe i-Size Car Seat to either the i-Size or M i-Size when needed. This would be ideal if you have more than one child.
Difference #2 – Protection From Side Impact
The latest model, Dualfix 2 R Car Seat is the only one that doesn’t offer Side Impact Protection: however, all three have deep side panels that give excellent protection from a side impact in any event.
The Dualfix i-Size Car Seat and the Dualfix M i-Size both have built in SICT.
This focus on sidewards safety absorbs the force from any impact and also acts as a buffer between your child and the car.
Therefore, your child has additional protection in the event of side on collisions with Dualfix i-Size and Dualfix M i-Size than with the Dualfix 2R.
Difference #3 – Size and Weight
Britax Dualfix 2 R is 53 cm H x 45 cm W x 70 cm D and weighs 14kg.
The Dualfix 2 R also has a shorter rebound bar which adds to the space available for your child’s feet in the rearward facing position.
Dualfix i-Size and the Dualfix M i-Size are both 48 cm H x 44 cm W x 74 cm D and weigh 15kg. This means, these are slightly heavier car seats even though they take up marginally less space in the car once installed. If you have a smaller car you may decide to choose one of these.
Difference #4 – Shaped Head Rest
Once again, the Dualfix i-Size and M i-Size both have a V-shaped headrest as well as the built-in SICT. They are both therefore ahead of the game as is depicted in the profile image from above shown underneath.
Why does this matter? Because the V-shape specifically fits to help position your child’s head safely, should there be a collision from the side. It also adds to their every day comfort when travelling.
Difference #5 – Safety Ratings
Britax’ in-house standard for testing are higher than ECE R44 and ECE R129 (i-Size) standards. Therefore the seats combine Britax specific safety elements thanks to the inclusion of steel in the seat design.
The Dualfix i-Size and the Dualfix Mi-Size both have a rating of “GOOD” and a grade of 2.1. as tested by Stiftung Warentest (06/2018) and they both have 6 recline positions in both directions of travel, which should keep your baby happy whatever their mood.
The Dualfix 2 R is the newest addition and with many features of the earlier models and 4 recline positions in each direction, is still building its accreditation.
Difference #6 – Price
The recommended retail prices of each car seat, in the standard colours, will no doubt factor highly in your decision making too. For example, if you have smaller car and want good value for money you may choose to buy the Dualfix M i-Size car seat.
Dualfix i-Size RRP is £375.00
