Cybex Pallas M-Fix Car Seat Review
Cybex Pallas M-Fix Car Seat Review
The Cybex Pallas M-Fix Car Seat is a Group 1-2-3 Car Seat suitable from 9 – 36kg, which is approximately 9 months to 12 years. Featuring optimum safety protection and a sleek, minimal design, the Pallas M-Fix will grow with your child; with no harness faffing in sight.
The seat unit provides luxurious comfort, you can feel just how well padded the entire seat is. Sleek and stylish, the look of this car seat is very modern. The seat cover is machine washable (at a low temperature) and easy to pop on and off. This is especially handy for all of those crumbs and stains that magically appear on children’s car seats. When in Group 1 mode, there is also a one-handed recline function. The headrest has three recline positions (in all modes) with technology that prevents your child’s head from slipping when asleep.
The seat has an optimised ventilation system, which basically means that it will maintain a comfortable body temperature for the child inside. This feature is ideal for all weather types, meaning you can go out in the car without the worry of your little one overheating or being too cold in the back. The Cybex Pallas M-Fix weighs in at a low 9.3kg, for a seat that does everything with top safety this is at the lighter end of the scale.
This is a Group 1-2-3 Car Seat, which means that it is suitable for use from 9 months to 12 years or 9 – 36kg; whichever your child reaches first. It’ll last your child for approximately 11 years, which is an extremely long lifespan span for a car seat. We love how once your child is out of an infant carrier that you will only need to buy one other seat until they no longer need one. With top safety ratings, you can be assured that this car seat will last and keep your child safe. This seat grows as your child does, which is what allows it to last so many years.
The Pallas M-Fix complies with the ECE R-44/04 Supplement 7 safety regulations and offers a diverse range of optimal safety features. Included with the seat is a one-handed adjustable impact shield (that can be removed as your child grows). This shield replaces the normal 5-point harness and doubles as an inflatable airbag to protect when in a collision against neck injuries (without being restrictive). The force of a head-on collision is distributed over the impact shield and absorbed by its impact-absorbing materials.
An energy absorbing shell, made from flexible material structure absorbs the force of an impact, keeping your child safe inside. There is also individually adjustable linear side-impact protection, which absorbs impact energy in the case of an accident. The force of a side-impact collision is automatically absorbed by these side protectors, as well as by the shoulder and head protectors. The protectors can also be individually adjusted to fit the interior of your car, so is suitable for most vehicles.
The 3-position reclining headrest prevents your child’s head from falling forward when falling asleep inside the seat. Offering a more comfortable sleeping position compared to other car seats, and cleverly shifts the balance point of your child’s head slightly back to prevent it from falling forward. This is revolutionary technology that we are yet to see in any other brand. If you were to find yourself within a side-impact collision, this weight shifting technology keeps your child’s head within the safety zone of the seat, offering optimal protection.
This car seat can be installed either by using ISOfix or not, if your car does have them then it is recommended that you use them as they have been tested and proven to be a safer and more stable travelling option. ISOfix can be used in both Group 1 and Group 2-3 mode, however, it can also be removed. Before you start, the headrests height needs to be in line with your child’s shoulders.
Group 1 installation
Once your headrest is at the correct height (at your child’s shoulders) you need to release the ISOfix arms. To do this, there is a grey button located at the front of the seat (near where your child’s feet would rest) that needs to be pulled; allowing the ISOfix arms to be released. Then, push the ISOfix arms into the ISOfix points of your car until they turn green. To secure, push the grey button again to tighten the car seat into to the seat of the car.
Push the impact shield into place and using the seat belt guides, securely place the seat belt around the shield and you’re ready to go. No harness faffing in sight.
Group 2-3 installation
To install the Pallas M-Fix for an older child, the base needs to be removed (on which the seat sits) along with the ISOfix arms, and the arms then reattach without the bigger base. The shield should also be removed for the Group 2-3 installation.
This may sound complicated, but it 100% is not. Flip the seat over so you are viewing the bottom and using a lever under the seat unit (near your child’s feet, under the material) slide off the base. Using the same grey button (from Group 1 installation) to release the ISOfix, let the ISOfix arms come out.
Once these arms have come apart from the base, click back into the car seat using the original lever that was used to release. Then, re-install as above. Push the ISOfix arms in until green, then push the seat into the car seat.
