Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle Pushchair Review
Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle Pushchair Review
We’ve been looking forward to reviewing the Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle Pushchair for some time as the legacy model has been a firm favourite for us and the new Urban Jungle didn’t disappoint! This buggy is designed for families with an active urban lifestyle. It comes equipped with the flexibility to handle both city and rural adventures. It really does live up to the Mountain Buggy promise of “simplicity, durability, manoeuvrability, adaptability”. If you’re looking for a versatile, all-rounder then we don’t think you can go far wrong with the Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle Pushchair.
Main differences between the legacy and Urban Jungle model include:
- New one hand fast fold technique
- More compact fold – 13cm/5″ decrease in size
- New fabric – durable canvas with new colour range
- Hand operated brake
- Increased basket capacity (10kg)
- Magnetic peek-a-boo window
Overall the changes to the Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle Pushchair are subtle but effective. They result in a buggy which is even simpler to use and as expected from Mountain Buggy the quality throughout the buggy is excellent.
Straight out of the box, the Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle Pushchair comes folded and you simply need to unfold the frame and pop the wheels on, as well as attaching the sun canopy and bumper bar. To unfold we simply needed to press in the grey button on the silver horizontal bar at the bottom of the seat, which allows the silver bar to twist. As you twist the bar, the buggy unfurls. Once you have it fully upright, let go of the bar and you’re ready to quickly assemble the other parts.
After use when you are ready to fold up the buggy and pop it in the boot or the cupboard you simply reverse the process (ensuring the brakes are on, the handlebar is in its lowest position, the seat is fully upright and the sun canopy is pushed back – all necessary to achieve a compact fold). At the base of the seat, you find the silver horizontal bar, pop in the grey button, twist the silver bar and lift up. As you lift the silver bar the buggy will fall together and you’re all done!
This one handed fold manoeuvre makes folding up the Urban Jungle a breeze. Plus, once folded the buggy can remain freestanding – perfect to save space for families with limited storage. The convenience of this new one hand fast fold saved us lots of time and hassle when test driving the Urban Jungle Pushchair and the folded footprint has decreased by 13cm/5″ which made a noticeable difference when we were storing the buggy away.
With their new line up Mountain Buggy have returned to a durable, waterproof canvas fabric and despite our initial scepticism this was a great choice. The material is not stiff or scratchy to the touch, it’s pliable and it feels sturdy and long-lasting. On top of this there are eight fantastic fashion colours now available, meaning there’s something for everyone.
The Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle Pushchair is suitable from birth right up to 25kg (approximately 5 years) and therefore versatility is key to adapt to the different needs of your little one throughout this life cycle.
A strap recline is operated by lengthening and shortening two straps to the rear of the seat, which gives great flexibility. You can move from lie-flat to upright, or anywhere in between. The space you create with the lie-flat recline creates an intimate space for your newborn to sleep and simulates the features of a carrycot within the core functionality of the buggy. The five-point safety harness on the Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle 2015 requires just one push of the button to release and then needs to be reloaded one at a time.
The seat comes with a padded liner as standard which is a great touch and gives a soft, comfy environment for your child. We love that you can swap out the liners for practicality (to pop one in the wash) and simply to make the buggy your own with a splash of style and design – we couldn’t resist getting the Coral liner to add a pop of colour to our black model.
There is a standard footrest on the Urban Jungle Pushchair above the wheel. There is also an additional footrest which you can extend and use when in lie-flat mode. For taller children that like their legs up when snoozing, this is great.
The seat is forward facing so your little one to be able to see the world from the comfort of their seat and an easily removable belly bar, which pops onto the frame sits across to keep your child safe and secure.
The Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle Pushchair comes with an attachable sun canopy which is easily mounted to the buggy by popping the clips onto the frame. The sun hood looks fantastic as the fabric matches the buggy. The depth of the hood is ample to keep your little one shielded from the sun and is tested to ensure a UPF 50+ rating. The size and full coverage of the hood is impressive but for those in particularly warm climates you can also purchase a Mountain Buggy Sun Cover.
We also love the Peekaboo window on the Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle Pushchair. It’s neatly hidden away when not in use and it’s subtle to open and close as it is works with magnetic fastenings.
The first thing we notice when we take our buggy for the first spin is the handlebar. As with many Mountain Buggy models this is adjustable for different height. The angle at which the handlebar drops and rises means it is super versatile for all buggy pushers, moving from 86 to 117.5cm, and in moments it was changed to the perfect height for me to stroll away.
Mountain Buggy is all about providing a smooth ride whether on the city streets or off the beaten track. One way they achieve this in their buggies is thanks to the carefully calculated weight distribution, wheel suspension and hardy tyres all of which results in the famous ‘kerb pop’. They require less force to get up and over obstacles. We’ve always loved the ease in which the Urban Jungle can get up and over bumps and this new model was even easier to manoeuvre.
There are three 12″ air filled tyres with improved rear wheel suspension. The front tyre has an improved wheel lock making it even easier to switch between lock back to full swivel.
Another instantly noticeable improvement on the Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle Pushchair is the re-positioning of the brakes which have changed from the previous foot operated brake. It is now an easily accessible brake lever on the right hand side of the handlebar. This model is clearly labelled with red and green (for off and on) and works a charm.
Storage space is more than ample on Mountain Buggy models and the Urban Jungle Pushchair is no exception. The under seat gear tray is made into a triangular in shape for a streamlined look and feel. The buggy and basket can take up to 10kg of baggage.
We also love the two handy zip pockets at the back of the storage tray. They can be zipped shut and are very useful for tucking away essentials.
The bottle holder near the handle provides easy access for a bottle of water whilst you’re on the go.
You can Easily turn the Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle Pushchair into a travel system. It is compatible with leading car seats. Mountain Buggy offer their own infant car seat, the Mountain Buggy Protect which is designed to work with the Mountain Buggy range or you can purchase adaptors for a number of other brands. We used Mountain Buggy Car Seat Adaptors (Clip 32) to attach our Maxi-Cosi Pebble Car Seat.
First, just remove the seat fabrics, an undoing of some loops and straps. Then attach your adaptors and car seat.
The car seat adaptors then simply pop onto the frame (and are clearly labelled left and right, which is super handy and removes any confusion) and once on we could simply click our Maxi-Cosi Pebble into place on the frame.

In cooler weather our little one loves the Sleeping Bag and Lambswool Seat Liner – we think that reversible liners that are great for adding comfort and colour. These are also available in a Fleece Version and a standard Reversible Version. We couldn’t resist the coral liner for a pop of colour!
When the sun isn’t out and you’ve got some blustery winter weather to contend with, we think the Mountain Buggy Storm Cover is a worthwhile investment. The storm cover provides full coverage. From the back it slips over the handlebars and secures with Velcro panels. This ensures usability whilst not letting any rain get on the rear of the buggy.
For the front of the buggy the storm cover pops under the base of the footrest. This ensures a snug fit. You can unzip and roll up the cover to allow visibility and access to your baby.
The Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle Luxury Pushchair Collection is an alternative, more stylish alternative to the Urban Jungle. With the same great features, plus the added bonuses of new colours and fabrics and luxury leather handle bars.
