Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus Review
Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus Car Seat Review
Top-of-the-range infant car seat. The first full i-Size safety rating. For us this is the car seat to go for if you will be making daily journeys by car and using the car seat as a travel system (attaching to stroller*) for much of the time. If this is not you the Pebble or CabrioFix by Maxi-Cosi will be more than sufficient for your needs. We rate them like this:
– CabrioFix (good)
– Pebble (better)
– Pebble Plus (best)
*You may need to wait for your stroller to be certified to carry the Pebble Plus but if they know what they’re doing they will get this done asap.

Out of the Box
Straight out the box the Pebble Plus is ready to go, simply remove the instruction booklet and you can use it within seconds. We love this about Maxi-Cosi car seats as they are so self explanatory and simple to use and automatically ready to go.
The UN r 129, or rather i-Size as we now know it is a new law that is being introduced across the EU, and the UK is currently putting it into play.
i-Size is the increased standard of safety for child car seats. The idea is that this law will keep children rearward facing for longer and improve safety standards. Company’s such as Maxi-Cosi will have to make their rearward facing car seats suitable for use up to at least 15 months, which is what the i-Size law is set to put into place.
This new i-Size law will eventually replace the outdated ECE R44 04 regulations.
Suitable from birth until approximately 1-year old or up to 75cm in length (whichever your child reaches first), this is a Group 0+ car seat. The 3-point safety harness has a single button release which makes getting your child out very easy. Simultaneous safety harness and headrest adjustment allows for your growing little one to easily be accommodated and comfortable.
The seat unit is soft and plush, and the included “Baby-Hug Inlay” gives it that extra comfort for a smaller child. This Baby-Hugg Inlay is also part of the protection given by the car seat, for a younger baby or smaller newborn this is a brilliant idea that will leave parents with a little bit more piece of mind. It’s also reversible so will give your Pebble Plus a splash of colour.
The harness is a “stay open” harness, the straps move themselves out of the way making it easy to place your child in or out. We love the fact that the harness does this as for parents with plenty in their hands, moving the straps isn’t often easy, especially when baby is sleeping.
On either side of the car seat there are grey buttons that are pushed to release the seat from the adaptors. You don’t even need to worry about pressing them both at the same time either as they are memory buttons. Only one hand is needed to take the Pebble Plus from a stroller chassis – ideal for busy parents.
The seat material is easily removable and machine washable, and there is no need to remove the harness before washing.
This is the safest infant car seat currently on the market. A high tech impact-absorbing side protection system allows for extra comfort and greatly improves safety performance in a side impact collision. We love that Maxi-Cosi have gone to great lengths when testing this car seat.
The handle has loops on the top for the sun canopy to attach to and grey buttons either side that adjust the height. There are several positions in which the handle can be placed:
– fully down supporting car seat (feeding)
– level with seat (rocking)
– up and over (when in transit or for carrying)
Hidden within the rubber covering around the seat there is an integrated sun canopy. There are two loops which attach it to the handle bar. We love that the canopy can be totally hidden when not in use and that the plastic loops to attach it to the handle are more secure so will not easily slip off.
There are two ways in which you can install the Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus. Either using the 2WayFix Base (from £190) or a 3 point seat belt in a car.
The Maxi-Cosi 2WayFix Base has been tested up to the same standards of i-Size safety as the Pebble Plus and is installed via ISOfix points in a car. Light and sound confirmation ensures for correct installation within the car and also of the car seat. With an adjustable support leg and a click and go release button, the 2WayFix Base will keep your Pebble Plus secure.
Maxi-Cosi have introduced a new and improved intuitive belt system so that the car seat belts will not hold in position if installed the wrong way around.
The Pebble Plus shares much of the same accessories as the Maxi-Cosi Pebble or CabrioFix.
A fitted Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus Raincover (from £14.99) will keep your child high and dry on those wet and windy days. A Footmuff (from £59.99) has been specifically designed for the Pebble and Pebble Plus, which is great for chilly winter months. Plus it’s available in matching or different colours if you can’t choose one design.
We found that when our cover was in the wash a Replacement Cover (from £54) was a handy accessory, you could even choose a different colour if you want to change your Pebble Plus up a little. We love the fact that Maxi-Cosi includes both buckle and harness pads so everything can be washed together, or changed colour for a new arrival.
A Summer Cover is also available for keeping your child cooler during the summer, and also protects the seat itself. The Maxi-Cosi Mosquito Net (from £7.99) is also a great little accessory for the summer as will stop insects from annoying your little one.
