Maxi Cosi Pebble Review
Maxi-Cosi Pebble Review
It’s one of the most sought after infant car seats on the market, and is said to have some of the best protection features to. Available in 9 eye-catching colours, we couldn’t wait to review it!
Out of the Box
When taking the Maxi-Cosi Pebble out of the box we were surprised that it was ready to go – nothing to add or change. Great! The Pebble comes with a removable support pillow, harness pads and an integrated sun canopy, all already attached when opening taking the car seat out of the box! These are all easy to remove and washable, making life extra easy.
Weighing in at a low 4.1kg, the Maxi-Cosi Pebble holds 0 – 13kg (approximately 12 months) making it an infant carrier Group 0+ car seat. The harness in the seat unit is a one-pull adjustable ‘easy out’ harness. Which basically means that the harness stays open when taking out or putting in your child. It only takes one hand to tighten the straps around child’s shoulders, and the straps themselves stay open when taking your child out of the car seat. We love the fact that Maxi-Cosi has introduced this nifty little feature as it makes holding baby in one hand whilst trying to move the straps in another so much easier.
Adjusting the height of both the headrest and harness is easily done from the back of the seat (hidden compartment – can be used for storing a phone or purse if need be) and is a simple gliding procedure which moves both the straps and head hugger to a different height at the same time.
The Pebble has also been airline approved, due to its small width and the testing in which it has endured. This feature is one that we don’t see often with an infant car seat, and love it! When wanting to travel with a smaller baby it comes in extremely handy.
The base of the car seat has a roll-cage like structure hiding inside it, making it extremely sturdy and great in any impact situation. Optimal protection against side impact can be felt in the seat, with great thickness that will also provide comfort if your child was to even be slightly caught up in an accident. It has been approved according to the latest European safety standard ECE R44/04.
The soft grip handle has three positions, ranging from rocking, feeding and driving. The feeding position is great for when not being able to take your child out of their car seat; as it simply lets the car seat stand upright and removes the bar so there is no hassle when trying to manoeuvre a spoon of food around the handlebar. The rocking position will allow you to let baby continue to sleep when needing to take the Pebble out of the car, it also provides comfort for when baby won’t settle as the base of the seat along with the handle in this position lets the Pebble ‘rock’; creating a swaying like motion. We love the fact that the Pebble has these three different handle positions, convenience is key! When driving with the Maxi-Cosi Pebble, make sure that the carrying handle is in an up right position; this is because when during an accident the full force of the collision will be absorbed by the handle rather than your child.
The integrated Sun Canopy is hidden behind a rubber-like material, which acts in a flap like manner. When down it allows you to take out and use the canopy, or either hide it inside under the material. This feature is also great because the material acts as a non-slip material so when in use in the car with a 3-point car seat belt gives a little bit more stability.
The Sun Canopy itself hooks onto the carrying handle with two plastic loops either side, meaning it will not slip off and can even be lowered when taking your child out. We love the fact that you can hide the sun canopy if it isn’t needed, and it’s more than easy enough to get out and hook on; perfect for in the sun!
The Maxi-Cosi Pebble is compatible with most Maxi-Cosi and Quinny strollers, however they have not all been rigorously tried and tested. With Maxi-Cosi Car Seat Adaptors, the Pebble can also fit onto most other branded buggies too. Such as Out n About, Phil & Teds, UPPAbaby and Mountain Buggy; however do make sure that the relevant adaptors are available for your model of buggy as some are very specific to the brand and model of the buggy.
The Maxi-Cosi Pebble can be fitted by either method of car seat installation: a vehicle 3-point seat belt or with ISOfix – when using the Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix Base.
The FamilyFix Base has light and sound confirmation of correct installation, also offering an extra upward position for when you’re child wants to look out and explore. This base will keep your child facing rearward for longer (the upward position also allows for extra leg room), which is said to be a lot safer when, if, caught in a collision.
If using just a normal 3-point car seat belt to install your Maxi-Cosi Pebble, the way in which the belt guides are positioned avoids incorrect unsafe installation. This smart design does not enable a parent to get the wrong end of the seat belt in the wrong position – i.e. in the wrong belt guide. This is a great feature which will not let someone who has never installed the Pebble before do it wrongly. Which we love.
When taking the Pebble off of a car seat base on stroller chassis, there are memory buttons which mean you only have to use one hand to release it – due to it remembering that it is being removed, so will not click back onto the frame or base.
When wanting to use the Maxi-Cosi Pebble as a travel system on a chassis of a buggy, why not purchase a fitted Maxi Cosi Pebble Raincover which will keep your child high and dry on those wet and windy days. A Footmuff has been specifically designed for the Pebble, which is great for chilly winter months.
We found that when our cover was in the wash a Replacement Cover was a handy accessory, you could even choose a different colour if you want to jazz your Pebble up a little. We love the fact that Maxi-Cosi includes both buckle and harness pads so everything can be washed together, or changed colour for a new arrival.
A Summer Cover is also available for keeping your child cooler during the summer, and also protects the seat itself. The Maxi-Cosi Mosquito Net is also a great little accessory for the summer as will stop insects from annoying your little one.
